Nirula's and Kapil Dev bring Khushii to Potpourri

New Delhi, August 7, 2007: Nirula's today announced its partnership with the NGO Khushii, in an event held at Nirula's Potpourri Restaurant in Connaught Place. Nirula's said today that it would undertake various fund raising activities for Khushii, to support their education initiative - Shikshaantra, a remedial education program facilitated in Neemrana, Delhi and NCR. In addition to the monetary grant, Nirula's will also send over a truck full of its delicious ice creams every month to the children supported by the foundation.

Shikshaantra takes Remedial Education to the doorstep of the underprivileged child. For its adult learners Shikshaantra forms self help groups and also provides vocational training to women.

Gracing the occasion Mr. Kapil Dev, former cricketer and Chairperson, Khushii, said, "Khushii believes in helping the under privileged in every way possible. We take great pride in the work we do, no work should be too big or too small . We must take pride in being able top make a difference, in however small it is. I appreciate the initiative that Nirulas , as a corporate has taken in supporting Shikshaantra, our remedial educare programme in Delhi. I strongly feel that more corporates need to associate with NGO's like us to make a difference in the lives of those less privileged. I look forward to more NGO's coming forth having taken Nirula's example of its CSR initiative. The kids at Shikshaantra center are looking forward to their monthly ice cream treats, a dream come true for them!

In the month of May, Nirula's undertook its first fundraising initiative through an art auction which was held at Nirula's Potpourri in Connaught Place. Rupees 1.6 lakh were generated through this initiative and handed over to Khushii today.

Handing over the cheque to Khushii, Samir Kuckreja, CEO & MD, Nirula's, said, "We believe that children are future agents of change and so we wanted them to be the beneficiaries of our CSR efforts and activities. We are happy to support Khushii in its Shikshaantra project and encourage their efforts towards creating learning environments."

The event also featured an enthusiastic dance performance by the children supported by Khushii on a medley of popular songs.

In the future Nirula's will undertake many more such special events to raise funds and will also remit a percentage of the profits of some its products for the welfare activities carried out by 'Khushii'. Nirula's will also place Khushii collection boxes at all its outlets to garner funds and create awareness about their work. Nirula's encourages its employees and customers to volunteer and invites their involvement. Over a short span of few months Nirula's customers have donated over 55,000 Rupees to charitable causes through the donation boxes places at our various outlets. We hope that our customers will continue to support our new tie-up with Khushii as well.

Nirula's has always been a pioneer, from starting the first Indian chain of Family Style Restaurants to initiating community centric CSR projects. In the past it has worked with homeless youth of Salaam Balak Trust. The Scholar's Club Award is an ongoing CSR exercise at Nirula's, which has now been in place for over a decade. The Birthday Club program offers a free Ice Cream Scoop to any child who signs up for it and the latest initiative has been to tie up with Khushii to buttress and support their developmental activities and projects.
